Growth is usually measured by the projects a company wins, the people it employs and the turnover it generates.

But sustainable growth starts much earlier.

It begins with choosing the right opportunities, building strong client relationships, creating a capable team and putting the right commercial structure behind the business.

Since joining Sparrow Construction in early 2026 as Head of Growth & Partnerships, Marcus Jefford has been working largely behind the scenes to help build that structure.

His role is not simply to generate more enquiries. It is to help Sparrow grow in a controlled, commercially stable and sustainable way.

More than 35 years of construction-sector experience

Marcus brings more than 35 years of experience across building products, manufacturing and construction supply.

His career developed from frontline trade and regional commercial roles into senior leadership positions across Jewson and Saint-Gobain. During that time, he held responsibility for regional operations, national sales strategy, major customer relationships, sustainable construction and commercial growth.

Marcus also created Build Aviator, a construction support business designed to connect estimating, design, compliance and material procurement. He later became its Managing Director, leading its development into a national proposition.

That experience has given Marcus a practical understanding of how construction businesses grow, but also where growth can go wrong.

Winning more work is only valuable when the business has the people, systems, commercial controls and delivery capacity to support it.

That principle is central to his role at Sparrow.

Why Sparrow appointed a Head of Growth & Partnerships

Sparrow Construction has developed significantly from its original foundations as a specialist façade installation contractor.

Today, we support main contractors, developers, fabricators and commercial clients through three delivery models:

Installation Only

Experienced installation teams working within an established design, supply and management structure.

Installation and Management

Sparrow takes greater responsibility for managing the installation package, programme and site coordination.

Full Package Delivery

Design, supply, installation and management brought together under one accountable façade delivery partner.

As the scale and complexity of our opportunities have increased, we recognised that the next stage of Sparrow’s development required dedicated commercial leadership.

We did not want growth to depend entirely on the Managing Director, individual relationships or opportunities arriving at the right time.

We wanted a clearer strategy, stronger account management and a commercial structure capable of supporting the business over the long term.

Marcus was brought into Sparrow to help create exactly that.

What Marcus does at Sparrow

As Head of Growth & Partnerships, Marcus leads Sparrow’s sales function and works closely with the MD and wider leadership team.

His responsibilities include developing Sparrow’s commercial strategy, implementing practical sales tactics and improving how opportunities are identified, qualified, progressed and converted.

He also manages and develops relationships with Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 contractors, alongside fabricators, system houses and other strategic industry partners.

This is not about pursuing turnover for the sake of appearing bigger.

It is about targeting projects that match Sparrow’s capability, selecting clients with whom we can build long-term relationships and making sure every opportunity supports the wider direction of the company.

Marcus is also helping to develop the sales team around a clearer structure, with defined responsibilities, better account management and greater commercial discipline.

Much of that work is not immediately visible from the outside, but it is essential if Sparrow is to continue growing without losing the quality, accountability and personal involvement on which the business has been built.

Turning relationships into genuine partnerships

The word “partnership” is used frequently in construction, but a genuine partnership requires more than exchanging enquiries and prices.

It requires understanding how each business operates, where responsibilities sit, what pressures exist and how both sides can create value over multiple projects.

Marcus’s role is to develop those relationships at a strategic level.

For our clients, that means better communication, clearer commercial conversations and a senior point of contact who understands both their immediate project requirements and their wider business.

For Sparrow, it means creating a stronger and more stable base of repeat clients, trusted fabricators and delivery partners.

The objective is not to become everything to everyone. It is to become increasingly valuable to the right clients.

Building a stronger leadership team

Sparrow remains a family-run business, and that will continue to shape how we operate.

However, being family-run should not mean that every decision, relationship and responsibility depends on one person.

A major part of Sparrow’s next stage is building a capable senior leadership team with the experience and authority to lead different areas of the business.

Marcus is an important part of that transition.

His commercial leadership complements Sparrow’s existing technical, installation and project-delivery experience. It also allows the business to become more structured without losing the speed, flexibility and personal accountability that have helped it grow.

This is about building a stronger company rather than simply a larger one.

Where Sparrow is heading

Our direction is clear.

We want controlled and sustainable growth.

We want stronger relationships across the commercial construction and façade sectors.

We want a senior leadership team capable of supporting clients, developing our people and protecting delivery standards as the business grows.

We will continue providing specialist installation services while developing our Installation and Management and Full Package capabilities for clients who want Sparrow to take greater responsibility.

That development will be supported by stronger commercial systems, clearer account management and carefully selected partnerships.

Marcus will play a central role in leading that work.

A message from Sparrow’s Managing Director

“Sparrow has never lacked ambition, but ambition on its own is not a business strategy. We have reached a stage where our growth needs stronger commercial structure, experienced leadership and a clear plan behind it. Marcus brings a huge amount of industry and leadership experience, but just as importantly, he understands that sustainable growth comes from the right clients, the right people and the ability to deliver what we promise. He has already become an important part of the business, and his role will be central to where Sparrow goes next.” Radoslaw Wroblewski, Managing Director

Building what comes next

Marcus may have spent his first few months working largely in the background, but the impact of his role will become increasingly visible through the clients we work with, the partnerships we develop and the team we build.

Sparrow’s next stage will not be built through growth at any cost.

It will be built through stronger leadership, disciplined decisions, dependable delivery and long-term relationships.

That is the direction we are heading in, and Marcus Jefford will be helping us lead the way.
